1. The People Behind the Reporting

At VALCORED News Network, we believe readers deserve to understand who is responsible for the information they consume.

Journalism is not only about the publication of stories. It also involves the people who gather information, investigate claims, assess evidence, provide context and make decisions about what should be reported.

Our approach to newsroom transparency is founded on a straightforward principle:

Readers should be able to identify the people, organisations or clearly described editorial processes responsible for published journalism.

This page explains how VNN identifies contributors, describes editorial roles and distinguishes original journalism from externally supplied or automated material.

2. Our Newsroom Structure

VNN operates as a digital-first news publishing brand.

As the organisation develops, its editorial responsibilities may be allocated across employees, independent contributors, commissioned specialists and appropriately authorised service providers.

The existence of a newsroom role within this framework does not mean a separate individual has necessarily been appointed to it.

Where one person performs several functions, VNN should describe those responsibilities accurately.

Publisher

The publisher is responsible for the organisation’s overall publishing operations, legal administration and governance.

These details are being confirmed and will be published here once verified.

Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Lead

Where appointed, the editorial lead is responsible for editorial quality, verification procedures, publication decisions and the oversight of corrections and complaints.

These details are being confirmed and will be published here once verified.

Journalists and Reporters

Journalists research, investigate, interview, verify and prepare stories for publication.

A journalist’s byline should accurately reflect their involvement in the reporting.

VNN will not create fictional journalists, misleading professional biographies or invented qualifications to give content an appearance of authority.

Editors and Content Reviewers

Editors review material for matters such as factual support, clarity, attribution, fairness, accuracy and suitability for publication.

A reviewing editor must not automatically be credited as the originating journalist unless that accurately describes their contribution.

Freelance and Independent Contributors

VNN may commission reporting from qualified or experienced independent contributors.

Freelance work should be subject to relevant editorial requirements, including disclosure of material conflicts, factual verification and intellectual property arrangements.

Guest Contributors and Specialists

Subject-matter experts may contribute commentary, analysis or specialist explanations.

Relevant qualifications, affiliations and financial interests should be presented accurately.

Guest commentary does not automatically represent the institutional position of VNN.

3. Author Profiles and Professional Transparency

Where appropriate, original VNN articles should link to an identifiable author’s profile.

Profiles may include:

  • The author’s name or established professional byline.
  • Their current editorial role.
  • A concise professional biography.
  • Relevant areas of reporting expertise.
  • Verified qualifications where material.
  • Relevant institutional affiliations.
  • A list of published work.
  • Appropriate professional contact information.
  • Material disclosures relevant to their reporting.

VNN does not require journalists to publish unnecessary personal information.

Where an author has legitimate safety or privacy concerns, alternative attribution may be used with appropriate editorial approval and explanation where feasible.

Professional biographies must not exaggerate qualifications, experience or employment relationships.

4. Byline Standards

An article’s byline must give readers a materially accurate understanding of its authorship.

Named Author

Used where an identifiable individual has undertaken the relevant writing or reporting.

Multiple Authors

Used where two or more contributors have made substantial reportorial or writing contributions.

VNN News Desk

May be used for appropriately supervised collective newsroom content when no individual byline accurately reflects the work.

This designation must not be used to imply that a team of journalists reviewed or reported a story if no such process occurred.

News Agency or Syndicated Source

Externally supplied reporting should identify the original provider or author as required by the relevant arrangement.

Press Release or Official Statement

Material substantially reproducing a press release or official announcement should be clearly characterised so readers do not mistake it for independent investigation.

Guest Contributor

Guest opinion, analysis or other submissions should identify their contributor status where appropriate.

5. Attribution of External News Sources

VNN may reference or use reporting from established news providers, public institutions and authorised third-party sources.

Such material must be described accurately.

When reporting originates outside VNN, attribution should identify the original source or publisher as appropriate.

External news agencies and other publishers remain separate organisations unless an actual partnership or legal relationship exists.

VNN must not suggest that it has exclusive reporting, international bureaus, overseas correspondents or formal affiliations without a factual basis.

6. Automated Reporting and Artificial Intelligence

Digital news systems may use automation to organise, retrieve, classify, summarise or display information.

VNN recognises that readers should not be misled about the role of automation.

Where content is substantially produced or transformed through automated processes, its presentation should accurately reflect the workflow.

An AI system must not be given a fabricated human identity or invented journalistic biography.

Any representation that an article has been independently verified or reviewed by a person must correspond to an actual review.

Material AI involvement should be disclosed where necessary to avoid misleading readers.

Responsibility for publication remains with the relevant human or legal publisher.

7. Our Editorial Responsibilities

Contributors are expected to uphold standards relating to:

Accuracy

Making reasonable efforts to verify material claims and correct factual errors.

Fairness

Representing relevant information and responses without material distortion.

Independence

Identifying and managing material conflicts of interest.

Attribution

Crediting sources, external reporting and licensed material.

Confidentiality

Respecting legitimate source-protection commitments and applicable legal obligations.

Public Interest

Considering the value and potential consequences of publication.

Accountability

Cooperating with reasonable editorial reviews, corrections and complaints.

8. Opinion and Specialist Commentary

VNN may publish informed perspectives from academics, researchers, professionals, community representatives and other relevant contributors.

The publication of an opinion piece does not mean VNN endorses every argument it contains.

Contributors remain responsible for the factual support of their assertions.

Where a contributor has relevant financial, political or professional interests, those interests should be disclosed when material to readers’ understanding.

Opinions should be appropriately labelled and should not be presented as independently established facts.

9. Corrections and Author Accountability

An author is expected to cooperate in the investigation of credible factual concerns relating to their published work.

VNN retains editorial responsibility for deciding how a correction, clarification, update or retraction should be handled.

Significant changes should be communicated with appropriate transparency.

An author should not independently alter a published article to conceal a material mistake or an unresolved editorial dispute.

10. Freelance and Contributor Submissions

VNN may consider external submissions that are relevant to its editorial scope.

Potential contributors should ensure that submissions are:

  1. Original or lawfully authorised for publication.
  2. Factually supportable.
  3. Properly attributed.
  4. Free from undisclosed material conflicts.
  5. Not knowingly defamatory or misleading.
  6. Respectful of applicable privacy and copyright requirements.
  7. Suitable for an appropriate VNN editorial category.

Submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

VNN may edit, decline, request revisions or withdraw material in accordance with its editorial standards and any applicable contractual terms.

Publication rights, compensation and licensing arrangements must be agreed upon where required.

11. Editorial Leadership and Public Accountability

VNN should maintain accurate public information about individuals holding significant editorial responsibilities.

The directory below lists verified appointments only.

Editorial Leadership Directory

These details are being confirmed and will be published here once verified.

Individual journalist and contributor profiles should be added as appropriate when their work is published.

Until a role is filled, VNN should not list a fictional or assumed appointment.

12. Contacting a Journalist or Editor

Readers may wish to:

  • Provide relevant information about an article.
  • Request a factual clarification.
  • Submit evidence concerning a developing story.
  • Seek an interview.
  • Offer a subject-matter contribution.
  • Report a possible ethical concern.
  • Request a correction or right of reply.

Where no direct professional author address is published, requests may be made through the newsroom’s general contact channel.

Confidential or sensitive information should not be submitted through ordinary website forms without considering the security limitations of those channels.

13. Our Commitment

Every published byline represents a responsibility to the reader.

VNN aims to ensure that the identification of journalists, contributors and sources is accurate, that editorial roles are not misrepresented and that readers can understand the origin of important information.

Credible journalism starts with knowing who is accountable for the story.
