What to expect
The final polls put Labour and National within about two points of each other. On the poll average, neither the National–ACT–NZ First coalition nor Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori would reach the 61 seats needed to govern, leaving Opportunity, polling above the 5% threshold, holding the balance; National and NZ First have ruled out working with it. Te Pāti Māori is polling under 5%, so its place in Parliament rests on the Māori electorates, where the party has split since 2023.
Results come in from 7pm NZDT: the Electoral Commission aims to count half of voting places by 10pm and 95% by 11.30pm. Special votes come later; the official result is due on 27 November.

Poll average: VNN's average of the five latest published polls, The Post/Freshwater Strategy (fieldwork 29 Oct to 3 Nov), Taxpayers' Union–Curia (28 Oct to 3 Nov), 1News–Verian (29 Oct to 2 Nov), Roy Morgan (28 Sep to 25 Oct) and RNZ–Reid Research (20 to 26 Oct). Projected seats divide the 120 seats by this average; they do not guess electorate overhangs. A party needs 5% of the party vote, or to win an electorate, to share in the 120 seats, which are divided by the Sainte-Laguë formula. A party that wins more electorates than its share keeps them, and Parliament grows by those overhang seats.
