Cardi B has shown off a pink, sapphire-set Rolex Daytona, putting one of the Swiss watchmaker’s most exclusive designs in the spotlight during a busy month of performances, fashion appearances and business expansion.
Photographs circulating on social media show the rapper seated beside a pink piano, with the matching timepiece presented above an open green Rolex box. Wearing pale blue, with sleek black hair, a long manicure and statement jewellery, Cardi provides a colour-coordinated setting for the watch collectors have nicknamed the “Barbie” Daytona.
The accompanying caption describes the watch as a purchase worth more than $2 million. The amount paid was not disclosed.
With its pink dial, sapphire bezel and matching strap, the watch brings a jewellery-led finish to a model best known for its motor-racing heritage. Its yellow-gold case and diamond-set details place it among the most elaborate interpretations of the Daytona.
Pink sapphires meet Daytona prestige
The “Barbie” Daytona belongs to the world of Rolex’s off-catalogue watches: extravagant pieces that attract attention through celebrity sightings and specialist dealers rather than conventional product launches.
GQ has reported that these models are offered to selected clients outside Rolex’s publicly promoted collection. The publication has also identified footballer Lionel Messi and basketball star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wearing the pink Daytona, giving the design a following across sport and entertainment.
Specialist dealer Wrist Aficionado describes the pink configuration as combining an 18-carat yellow-gold case with a pink lacquer dial, pink sapphire hour markers and a sapphire-set bezel. Diamonds decorate the lugs and pushers, while a matching pink alligator strap completes the design. The dealer lists its example with a price available on request.
The colour is carried across almost every visible part of the watch. A deeper pink surrounds the softer dial, while the gold case separates the gemstones from the matching strap. The familiar three-counter layout remains visible beneath the jewellery treatment.
In the photographs with Cardi, the presentation is equally deliberate. The green Rolex box provides a contrasting backdrop, while the cream cushion and black glove frame the watch’s pink and gold details.
Her pale-blue outfit adds another colour without competing with the timepiece. The pink piano ties the scene together, making the watch part of a broader fashion presentation rather than an isolated jewellery close-up.
The combination fits a performer whose public wardrobe regularly places elaborate accessories alongside distinctive clothing. Here, the watch supplies the strongest colour, with the rest of the styling giving it room to stand out.
A racing watch becomes a jewellery statement
The Daytona’s origins are far removed from pink sapphires and celebrity presentations.
Rolex launched the Cosmograph Daytona in 1963, developing the chronograph’s identity around motor racing. Its stopwatch function measures elapsed time, while the tachymetric scale found on conventional versions allows average speed to be calculated over a known distance.
The pink interpretation retains the recognisable case shape, chronograph counters and pushers. A ring of sapphires takes the visual position usually occupied by the numbered bezel, shifting the emphasis from sporting instrument to fine jewellery.
That recognisable outline helps explain the appeal of gem-set Daytonas. Even beneath an elaborate arrangement of stones, the model remains identifiable. The “Barbie” version takes that established design and gives it a strongly coordinated colour scheme.
For Cardi, the result is an accessory that can hold its own alongside substantial jewellery, a detailed manicure and a carefully styled outfit. The photographs centre on that visual impact, with the watch presented prominently enough for its dial, stones and strap to register together.
Cardi B’s October run includes a Tiny Desk debut
The watch appearance comes during an active period for the rapper, who turned 34 on 11 October.
Her NPR Tiny Desk concert premiered on 19 October, bringing together eight songs from across her catalogue. The set included “Hello”, “ErrTime”, “Man of Your Word” and “Be Careful”, followed by “Up”, “AH HA”, “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It”.
NPR producer Alanté Serene said the appearance drew one of the largest crowds he had seen at the broadcaster’s music office, with some people turned away. Cardi performed with a band led by music director Adam Blackstone, alongside backing singers and a horn section.
The performance gave familiar material a live-band setting, moving from the more personal “Man of Your Word” and “Be Careful” into the closing run of hits.
Her wardrobe remained central to the presentation. For Tiny Desk, Cardi wore a vintage Thierry Mugler jacket with celestial embellishments and black latex trousers, continuing her established relationship with the fashion house.
The black stage outfit and the pale-blue look in the watch photographs offer different settings for her accessories. One centres on structured tailoring and metallic details; the other uses softer colours around a vivid pink timepiece.
Both appearances keep fashion closely connected to her public performances, extending the visual identity of her music beyond videos and arena stages.
Grow-Good Beauty moves into neighbourhood stores
Alongside the music and luxury fashion, Cardi is expanding her presence in the beauty business.
Her Grow-Good Beauty haircare venture, developed with Revolve, is moving into independently owned beauty supply stores after launching online earlier this year.
Two New York locations began selling the products on 20 October. Further launches were scheduled for 23 October in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles, bringing the initial rollout to six stores, according to The Business of Fashion.
The choice of retailers reflects Cardi’s connection to the neighbourhood shops she used before becoming a global star. Speaking to the publication during the New York rollout, she said: “This is where I used to be and I still am.”
The range includes shampoos, conditioners, a serum and a hair mask, with products priced below US$20. The Business of Fashion reported that the brand draws on her Dominican roots and her history of sharing homemade hair treatments with followers.
The store expansion gives Cardi another public-facing project as her Tiny Desk performance reaches audiences online. With four further cities included in the rollout, her next business step is bringing Grow-Good onto shelves in the beauty supply stores where she says her core customers already shop.lly natural match: bright, elaborate and comfortable being the centre of attention.
